Johann Sebastian Bach

Biographical Passage ไบบ็‰ฉๅ‚ณ่จ˜

Anyone who has listened to classical music knows the name Johann Sebastian Bach. The German composer lived from 1685 to 1750, and in that time, he wrote more than 1,100 pieces of music. Bach played several instruments, but his main one was the organ. His works are still popular, and they continue to influence musicians today.

Here are some interesting facts about the man behind the music. When Bach was 20, he walked over 250 miles from Arnstadt to Lubeck in northern Germany. He did that to hear a concert by an important organ player and composer. In 1717, Bach quit his job with the Duke of Weimar. However, the duke wasn't happy about that and put Bach in prison for a month. At 65, Bach developed an eye problem, so he had two operations to fix it. However, they didn't work, and Bach died shortly after that.

7. What does "composer" in the first paragraph mean?
8. What is the main idea of the passage?
9. What did Bach NOT do?

Gemma's cell phone โ€” Chat with Keith:

Keith: I'm 30 minutes away from getting Mom as you asked. However, I lost the note you gave me with her flight number. Can you tell me what it is again?

Gemma: It was this. [Flight ABC 1121 โ€” Bone Town โ†’ Cat City, 9:15 a.m. โ†’ 12:45 p.m.]

Keith: OK, got it. Hold on. Mom texted me before her flight and said it was canceled because of a huge snow storm.

Keith: Does that mean she's not coming?

Gemma: No, the airline was able to put her on another one. They hope the storm will be out of the area by the time it's scheduled to take off. Mom just sent me this. [Flight ABC 1221 โ€” Bone Town โ†’ Cat City, 1:45 p.m. โ†’ 5:15 p.m.]

Keith: It looks like it won't be a quick stop like I thought. I guess I'll park for a while and kill time inside the airport.
